A long-term partnership behind a complex ecommerce system

How a long-term technology partnership supported the evolution of a complex medical device business – from early internal systems to a platform now being considered for wider rollout.

The Client

C-Pro Direct

C-Pro DirectOrthoPediatricsAcquired by OrthoPediatrics (Nasdaq: KIDS)

C-Pro Direct is a UK-based manufacturer and distributor of orthopaedic devices, supplying both the NHS and private providers, as well as direct-to-patient channels.

Their business combines multiple product lines, complex buyer types, and very different routes to market – from institutional procurement to individual patient sales.

Each channel brings its own expectations, workflows, and compliance requirements.

The Challenge

One platform, two very different buyers

C-Pro Direct needed a single platform that could support both institutional procurement and direct-to-consumer ecommerce – without compromising either.

On one side: purchase orders, approval chains, account hierarchies, and role-based pricing.

On the other: a straightforward ecommerce experience for individual patients.

Behind both sat the need for accurate inventory, reliable fulfilment, and systems that could support the operational demands of a growing medical device business.

This wasn’t something an off-the-shelf platform could handle without significant adaptation.

The Partnership

Two decades, one technology partner

Early 2000s

Partnership begins

MediDev begins working with C-Pro Direct, initially developing internal systems to support clinical trials and early operational needs.

Mid 2000s

Clinical trial system

Custom software developed to track and manage a clinical trial – forming the foundation of the relationship.

Early 2010s

First ecommerce platform

Initial nopCommerce-based ecommerce platform developed, tailored to the specific requirements of medical device distribution.

2010s onwards

Platform evolution

Ongoing development introduces role-based pricing, PO workflows, account hierarchies, and ERP integration – each layer adding to the system’s capability.

2020s

Multi-channel maturity

A single platform supporting both NHS procurement teams and direct-to-patient ecommerce, with increasingly complex product and pricing structures.

Acquisition

Acquired by OrthoPediatrics Corp. (Nasdaq: KIDS)

The platform underwent acquisition-level technical due diligence.

Present

Group-level consideration

The platform is now being evaluated for potential rollout across a wider group of companies.

What We Built

A platform shaped by real business problems

The platform wasn’t built in one phase. It evolved over time, responding to real operational needs as the business grew.

Heavily customised nopCommerce platform adapted for medical device ecommerce
Support for both institutional procurement and direct-to-consumer sales
Complex, customer-specific and role-based pricing across multiple buyer types
Account hierarchies and multi-user access for organisational customers
PO-based ordering workflows with approvals and validation
Bi-directional ERP integration supporting order processing and inventory
Compliance features aligned with regulatory requirements
Support for large, configurable product catalogues with many variations

The Acquisition

Built to withstand scrutiny

Following acquisition by OrthoPediatrics Corp. (Nasdaq: KIDS), the platform underwent detailed technical due diligence.

Architecture, security, scalability, and operational reliability were all assessed as part of the process.

The platform passed.

What’s Next

From acquisition to group-wide consideration

OrthoPediatrics is now evaluating the MediDev-built platform for potential rollout across a wider group of companies.

As a listed business, this level of consideration reflects both the strength of the platform and the long-term partnership behind it.
